Ferguson: Ronaldo & Messi Still Untouchable

Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that nobody has yet managed to compete with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo and Messi have won all of the last seven Ballon d’Or awards and Kaka was the last star, besides the pair to have been named the best player in the world, back in 2007. The Scot has said that rising stars, such as Neymar, are not yet ready to take over the mantle.

"You'll always look at clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United to produce that kind of player you're talking about,” Ferguson said in an interview with SiriusXM FC.

"But to be honest I'm not sure there's one sticking out at the moment. The boy Neymar gets a lot of publicity about the potential he's got, but I think that's still to be seen, still to be fulfilled.”

The 73-year-old then discussed how highly regarded Neymar is before concluding that he hopes that he is the player to showcase the same kind of talent that Messi and Ronaldo have over the years.

"Certainly, most people I speak to speak highly of the boy,” he added. “When I had Anderson at United, he spoke volumes about the boy's ability.

"So hopefully he'll be the next one who'll produce the type of talent we see in Messi and Ronaldo."
