Bayern Munich’s honourary president Franz Beckenbauer has said that his
team will struggle to cover for the absence of wingers Arjen Robben and
Franck Ribery, who are out of this weekend’s clash with Borussia
Dortmund.
The Dutchman picked up an abdominal injury in Bayern’s defeat to
Borussia Monchengladbach prior to the international break, while Ribery
is still recovering from an ankle injury.
"Bayern's biggest problem against Dortmund is the absence of Robben and Ribery. You cannot replace them," Beckenbauer told Bild.
The former World Cup winner added that, even though Thomas Mueller and
Mario Gotze are attacking threats, they aren’t as dangerous as their
teammates.
"Of course Gotze and Muller are great players, too,” he added.
"But Ribery and Robben are without a doubt the most dangerous wingers
around. Their absence will be a huge blow for Bayern and an advantage to
Dortmund."
Bayern travel to Signal Iduna Park with the mental advantage, having
beaten Dortmund 3-0 in the home fixture earlier this season.
