Messi Overtakes Ronaldo In La Liga Scoring Charts

FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo in the La Liga goal-scoring charts for the first time since September.

Messi, who scored a brace in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Eibar on Saturday, has now scored 32 La Liga goals this season.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, stayed on 30 goals after drawing a blank in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win against Levante.

The Argentine lead the goal-scoring rakings for the first three La Liga game weeks, but ever since Ronaldo had taken over.

The Portuguese had build-up a lead of 13 goals ahead of Messi, but the 27-year-old has now turned the race upside down.

He has scored an impressive 16 goals in 2015, 11 more than Ronaldo and five more than any other player in the top five leagues in Europe.

His brace against Eibar was the 120th time that he scored at least two goals for club and country (112 for Barcelona, 8 for Argentina).

Messi’s header to make it 2-0 was also his first goal by a direct header from a corner kick since his La Liga debut.

Overall, Messi has scored 43 goals this season, while Ronaldo sits on 41 for the current campaign.

His 32 La Liga goals would already beat Ronaldo’s total of 31 goals from last season, which was enough to win the Pichichini trophy for the best goal scorer.
