Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could end his poor run of
form by becoming the all-time record-scorer in European competitions
tonight.
The Portuguese recently levelled Lionel Messi and Raul’s all-time record of 76 goals in various European competitions.
Ronaldo has scored 73 goals in the Champions League so far, while also
scoring one in Champions League qualification and two in the 2014
European Super Cup final.
Messi, meanwhile, has scored 75 of his goals for Barcelona in the
Champions League, while adding another in the 2011 European Super Cup
final.
Ronaldo has scored 58 goals in 58 Champions League games for Los
Blancos and is also the competitions record-scorer in the knockout
stages, with 35 strikes.
Ronaldo is the first player to win 28 matches in the knock-stages and
is currently on a run of 14 consecutive wins in the competition – the
longest winning streak of any player in the history of the competition.
However, he has only scored seven goals in 12 games in 2015, but will
surely be keen to add another against Schalke in the last-16 return leg.
In addition, Real Madrid have won their last 10 consecutive Champions
League games – including all seven in the current campaign – and could
break Bayern Munich’s competition record with another win against
Schalke on Tuesday.
