The Belgian club of Nigeria U20 star Wilfred Ndidi have booked their
place in the championship playoff in Belgium after they beat
Zulte-Waregem 3-2 on Saturday.
Genk will thus feature in a six-team playoff after the regular season to determine the champions of Belgium as well as the clubs to feature in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Genk held back Ndidi from the 2015 AYC in Senegal because they insisted their focus is on qualifying for the playoffs.
The young Nigeria centre-back was an unused substitute on Saturday.
The club coached by Alex Mcleish remain in sixth place with 49 points from 29 matches, three clear points ahead of closest rivals Sporting Charleroi.
Their final game of the regular season will be on Sunday, March 15, at Standard Liege.
