FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi scored three goals in just 12
minutes on Sunday, while Cristiano Ronaldo has only netted twice in his
last eight league games.
The Argentine was once again on fire in his side’s 6-1 thrashing over
Rayo Vallecano, scoring a superb hat-trick between the 56th and 68th
minutes.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, drew another blank in Los Blancos’ 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
The Portuguese has now only scored two goals in the last eight La Liga
games – he missed two due to suspension – while Messi has scored 14
goals in the same period.
Ronaldo did not manage a single shot on target in three of the eight
games, which essentially resulted in his side dropping seven points.
FC Barcelona have overtaken Real at the top of La Liga and Messi’s fine
form has surely played a massive role in their recent success.
Messi’s hat-trick against Rayo was already his fifth this season (third
in 2015) and the 27-year-old also broke Ronaldo’s La Liga hat-trick
record with it.
The Argentine has 24 La Liga hat-tricks, while Ronaldo has 23. Overall,
Messi also boasts the most hat-tricks in Spanish history, surpassing
Telmo Zarra’s previous record of 31 trebles.
