Barca’s Director Of Football Says Messi Could Leave

FC Barcelona’s new Director of Football has revealed Lionel Messi could leave Camp Nou.

Former Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida recently replaced Andoni Zubizarreta at Barcelona and explained that stranger things than a potential Messi departure have happened in football.

“As for Messi, I think it’s almost impossible he will leave but with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, who have so much money, it could happen. Sometimes strange things occur,” he told Esport 3 in an interview.

“But he’s a phenomenon, an extra-terrestrial who is comparable to Maradona and Pele.”

Braida forms part of Barcelona’s new Football Area Technical Commission, which was formed on 12 February to guide the club into calmer waters following their transfer ban until 2016.

“I have 30 years’ experience and contacts throughout the world. I have friends all over. In Brazil, Argentina, Europe,” he added.

“I’ve come here with great humility and believe I can be good for the future of this club. It’s important to think about signing players for a year or two from now.

“I’ve been at big clubs like Milan and always worked with anticipation.”

Messi has scored 395 goals in all competitions for FC Barcelona – the only club he has ever professionally played for.
